The Last Supper ( 2011 ) by Migle Backovaite
Although the theme is derived from the religious context, these series of images are the modern interpretation of what has been seen and experienced through the work of other artists rather than just replication of the historical scenario.
We were in particular inspired by the Poussin painting of the Last Supper scene, and his work was a point of reference.
The idea was born very accidentally,- I had the harlequin paper plates,  that I thought of as being very photogenic,  Jeremiah ( Jesus ) was on a visit and had long beard, - one could not deny his physical resemblance to Jesus.  And Willie Nash came down for a dinner while some of the plates were on the table.
And so we bought 50 meters of the white material and started ` casting ` the apostles.  Inspired by the exhibition ` 30 Years of Japanese Fashion `, Jeremiah was draping the material on each apostle individually following his creative intuition.  It took us more than a month to `cast` the apostles, design the costumes, think of the set-up, come-up with the make-up idea, and certain scenarios.
This project is a result of beautiful collaboration and exchange of the creative energy between me, Jeremiah ( Jesus ), and Willie Nash who had offered his studio and helped us to build the set up for the shoot.
Having this opportunity, I would like to thank all the people involved in this project, and especially those who were in front of the camera and had enough courage to play such empowering roles.
